Loftin & Company traces its beginnings to the year 1898. William McKinley was President and the Spanish-American War was in the headlines. It would be five years before the Wright Brothers were to make their first flight in a heavier-than-air, mechanically propelled airplane, and 10 years before Henry Ford would turn out his Model T.

Charles Ivey Loftin, Sr., 20 years of age and working as a printer for the Gastonia Gazette, was asked by George Glenn, who had a small printing business, to join in forming Glenn & Loftin, Printers. Five years later, in 1903, Mr. Glenn left to go into the plumbing business. The new printing company was Loftin & Company.

In the 100 years since its beginning, the Company has weathered many wars and financial busts, including the Great Depression of the 1930's, without missing a single payroll. Family ownership has been continuous and is currently led by the third generation.
